News
Savvy and I are expecting. We just heard our little baby's heartbeat yesterday, and we're about 13 weeks along. We are due around the 19th of July. We're excited. I'll post updates as it goes along, but as for now I'm just excited to share the news.

College Football
Ok, so for those that doubted this before, yesterday's Sugar Bowl proved that we need a college football playoff system. Despite my allegiance to the Y, you had to be impressed with the way Utah handed it to a very talented Alabama team. After all, wasn't this the same 'Bama team that was ranked #1 all through November? Wasn't this the same 'Bama team that Florida beat to earn a spot in the national title game? Isn't Utah the only FBS team with a 0 after the dash? The Utes have now beaten 3 Top-15 teams and the only team to beat USC.
You could have a playoff system that includes the top 8 teams at the end of the year. The bowl system could be preserved as a part of the playoff system. Sure, there would be teams left out... but it's better in my mind that a #9 team, which this year would be Boise State, is left out of a playoff system than a strong... (gulp) underrated Utah team be left out of a title shot.

Who says you can't run a campaign on CNN?
As many of you know, Caroline Kennedy is pushing hard to get the Senate seat from New York that was vacated by Obama's appointment of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Kennedy has made no qualms about pining for the position. She is using her profile as JFK's daughter to attract copious amounts of media attention to build momentum and tie the hands of New York governor David Patterson.
This comes at a time that Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been arrested on corruption charges for, among other things, attempting to sell Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat. I honestly believe that we should look at a constitutional amendment to change the way that vacant Senate seats are filled. Our constituion is based on the idea of checks and balances, and there is no check on executive authority when a single person is allowed to wield such power and influence.
I'm not sure why we don't have it already, but any time a seat is vacated, there should be a temporary appointment by an executive, and then an election by the people the Senator represents. I'd like to hear an argument against it... so if you disagree, let me know.

Kurt Bestor
So I got tickets for Savvy and me to go see Kurt Bestor in concert this week. I'm stoked because I love Christmas and Christmas music, as does she.
I love this time of year for all the good it brings out in people and how it makes us think outside ourselves. One of my all-time favorite songs is by Kurt Bestor... but it's not a Christmas song. Most of you have probably heard it... "Prayer of the Childen."
I was searching for that song online, and this is the first video that came up. Made me cry. Christmas is such a great time of year because we all stop to think of others. Just like on December 24, 1914, when opposing soldiers laid down their weapons, decorated their trenches, and walked across "no man's land" to give gifts to the opposing side, we can use this time of year to lay down our weapons of hate, mistrust, and envy and try to be better people. While world peace may be far away, let's all use this Christmas season to overcome our differences with our friends and neighbors.
Merry Christmas
